Years Have Gone By Already
I find it hard to believe that my Flower Talk Newsletter is two years
old with this issue. I want to thank all of you (my readers) who have
been a part of it.
Also, I want to thank my Coach and Mentor Sandro Salsi of
sandrosalsi.com who has given me the inspiration to develop a newsletter
and has taught me everything I know today about internet marketing.
I look forward each month to learning new internet marketing strategies
during our 1 on 1 telephone sessions. Yes, I am still a novice in this
business, but I have also come a long way under Sandro’s guidance.
If any of you are thinking of entering the Internet market, I would
definitely recommend you
check out his site. Just a small portion of
what he offers is:
- 1 on 1 private telephone/in-person coaching.
- Interactive learning process using a shared desktop environment
- Unlimited email support (believe me this is one area where I
have probably written a book in itself with all my emails)
- An extremely easy going and knowledgeable individual
- He also includes website design or redesign
Don’t forget, if there is anything you would like to see in the
newsletter just drop me a line. I read all the emails that you send,
and try to answer them.
I hope this new 3rd year will be as good as the last. Of course, if
it were not for you my readers and Sandro this issue would not have
been published.
My sincere thanks to all……………..Judy
Line Flowers
When it comes to flower design, there are certain things that jump to
mind immediately, such as the color, size or shape of the arrangement.
What may not immediately pop into your mind, though, is the line of the
piece. Yet, line flowers are very important.
What Line Flowers Do:
Line flowers do establish the shape of a piece, from a certain
standpoint. That is, they establish the outline of the flower
arrangement. It's a bit like saying that a square is a shape and the
perimeter of the square is the line, or, for easier comparison, outline
of the shape.
The reason that it's so important for a flower arrangement to include
line flowers is to make a statement of some sort. After all, flower
arrangements would be very drab and boring if each flower was the same
height and pointed exactly the same way.
Adding Height:

One reason that line flowers are useful in a floral arrangement is that
they can add height to a piece. Cattails (on left), for example, are tall flowers
that can be used to make a statement. Snapdragons and Gladiolus are similarly tall.
Adding Angles Or Curves:
Some flowers, such as Bells of Ireland (pictured on right), can have
curvy stems that you can use, as a designer. The natural curves of such
flowers are not a bad thing. Although many flowers grow straight as an
arrow, natural curves can really serve to accentuate a piece.
Adding Your Own Touch:
Although many flowers and plants can be used in floral arrangements as
is, you may be able to change the line of a piece by adapting a flower.
One way to do that is to remove certain leaves. Another way is to
actually bend and shape the stems. Certain flowers are flexible enough
to mold to suit your own creative ideas.
Branching Out:
Although flowers can give lines to a piece, many tree branches and twigs
can also be
great for the purpose. In fact, the branches from various
fruit trees are wonderful, especially cherry (shown on left), apple and plum. So, as a
flower design specialist, it's important to consider every option.
Line As A Component:
The line of a piece is very important. It helps people to recognize the
entire flower arrangement, rather than just staring at a particular spot
or color. However, line is only one component of the project.
If you want a great piece, you should start by choosing and inserting
line flowers, usually. Then, you should build the rest of the piece
around the line flowers or branches. Remember that the next steps should
be to add flowers that bring color and body to the piece. That way,
you'll have a full piece that you can be proud of.

In the next issue of Flower Talk we will discuss form and mass
flowers.
