Ten Tips for Flower Arranging That You Cannot Do Without
Flowers.
Beautiful. Colorful. Delightful.
They are the perfect decor to your home, the perfect touch to your wedding, the perfect gift for that someone special. Flowers, in both small and large
arrangements, are a surefire way to light up someone's life. And you don't have to spend a small fortune to do it. With a little know-how, you can create your very own flower arrangements that are just as great, even better, then your flower shop. It just takes a little knowledge, a good eye, and some creativity.
1. Go With Your Gut and Toss Out the Rules
There are hundreds, even thousands, of books and articles about flower arranging. Every one of them will give you rules--what you should and should not do, color combinations to avoid, types of flowers that just don't match, and kinds of containers you should never use.
Don't listen.
Flower arranging is all about your own creativity. If you think something is going to good it probably will. Just like all art forms, you have to go with your gut. Do you love the colors pink and orange, but every rule says you should never mix pink and orange?
Forget it.
Go with your instinct and mix your favorite colors. It surely will be aesthetically pleasing to you and definitely will be a display of absolute creativity. You might not want to use your pink and orange arrangement for a wedding and maybe not everyone will like it, but your out-or-the-box thinking will give you complete enjoyment and personal satisfaction. You will have created a unique and extremely beautiful arrangement for you to treasure.
2. Enhance Small Flowers by Bunching them in Groups
Small flowers tend to get lost in flower arrangements. They often are hidden behind large flowers and the greens. Grouping small flowers together will alleviate this problem. Groups of small flowers stand out better and make a distinguishing impact. There are two ways to group small flowers together, bunch the flowers loosely by positioning them close together or bundle them together with ribbon, rubber bands, floral wire, or floral tape.
3. Your Want a Frog for Your Arrangement
Floral Frog. That is.
Rather than use floral foam, which can be difficult to use, go for floral frogs. Floral frog are flower holders, arrangers, or flocks. They are placed at the bottom of your container, just like floral foam, only they don't come ith the same problems as floral foam. Sticking flowers into floral foam often causes the stems to break or bend, which can be costly and inefficient. Also, when arranging flowers, you tend to move the flowers around a lot, trying to find the best places for each flower. This can cause the floral foam to break apart to the point where it is unusable. The Floral foam also weakens the capability of the floral stems to absorb water and nutrients and shortens their life. Floral frogs on the other hand doe not cause these problems. They are also reusable, require less waste, and less cost over time. Additionally floral frogs are decorative, make excellent collector's pieces, are inexpensive, and come in a variety of different styles, shapes, colors and sizes.
4. Sometimes Single is Sensational
These days, huge flower arrangements seem to be the norm. Everyone thinks the the bigger the arrangement the better. Sometimes that's true, buts sometimes they are a little out of hand and inappropriate. There are times when a single flower is the perfect arrangement.
To take for instance , the single red rose. t say more than any large arrangement can. It can says "love at first sight or I still love you."
Single flower arrangements are simple elegant stylish. They can be placed in small vases and containers, used to float in wineglasses, teacups, and other tiny containers for smaller blooms and used to float in bowls or big containers for larger blooms.
Single sometimes says it all.
5. Flowers are Beautiful in All Kinds of Containers, Not
Just Vases

The best arrangements are unique arrangements, and the best was to create a one-of-a-kind flower arrangement is to not only get creative with the flowers, but to get imaginative with the containers. Vases, although classic, are not the only things you can use. Look around your house for any open container.
Bowls, glasses, ceramics, teapots, bottles, baskets, are great for holding flowers. Don't worry if the container you choose doesn't hold water, You can always place a smaller vase, bottle, or
container inside of it here it is hidden.
6. Flowers Always Need to be Cut with a Sharp Knife or
Pair of Scissors
Never use a dull knife or pair of scissors to cut your flowers. Only a sharp knife or pair of scissors can give you the sharp, straight edge you need. A sharp, even cut is necessary to allow the water to absorb into the flower stems. A dull cut causes tattered and frayed edges, which hinders water and nutrient absorption and makes your flowers die faster.
7. Flowers like to be Cool
Although an arrangement of flowers looks absolutely gorgeous in warm sunlight, they do not like it. Flowers do not thrive in warm temperatures. They need to be kept in cool locations in order for them to last longer. Keep your flowers away from direct sunlight, large lights, heating vents, heaters, active fire places, stoves, and appliances. If you must put your flowers in a warm location, make sure you water them frequently with cold water. Adding an ice cube or two every once in a while will also help them last longer.
8. Sometimes Flower Scents are not a Good Thing.
Always keep in mind that your flowers do have a scent. There's nothing worse than making a flower
arrangement that does not appeal to the sense of smell. Many times, the scent of your flower arrangement is too powerful for a small room or dinner table. Often, flower scents are too strong or unpleasant for some people and can cause them to get sick. For example, strong scented gardenias or lilies are probably not good options for small or hot rooms or dinner tables. Some flowers are what we call "stinkers". They just don't smell good or don't smell good to some people. If the flower doesn't smell that good in a flower shop, it definitely will not smell good when it is placed in a small area.
9. Like the Human Body Water is Essential to Flowers
Flowers can only thrive if they have plenty of water. If you want your flowers to last and remain beautiful, you must check the water frequently. When you have a glass vase or container, it is easy to notice if the water level is low and water needs to be added. You can instantly see if the water is cloudy, which is a sign of a bacteria infestation and means you need to clean your vase and change your water. But, with opaque or solid containers, it is
much more difficult to notice if you need to do something about the
water. You have to keep on top of it.
10. Perfect is in the Eye of the Creator
Your flower arrangements don't have to be perfect to be beautiful. They don't have to be big, costly, or time consuming. All they have to be is your very own creation and magnificent in your eyes. You don't need extravagant. In fact, extravagant is probably too much. Don't go to any great expense to make your flower arrangements. Opt for simple and unique.
