Small Size, Big Impact
How many times have you heard the phrase, good things come in
small packages? It's true and it applies to flower arrangements too.
Flower arrangements don't have to be big and beautiful to command attention in a room. In fact, there are many benefits to making smaller arrangements to beautify your home.
The truth is, while a large flower arrangement in a beautiful
container and vase can be an attention grabber in any room, more
times than not, it is also overwhelming. Not every room can handle
a large flower arrangement without it feeling unbalanced or getting
in the way. This is where mini-arrangements can make a huge impact
on decorating your home. The benefits to mini-arrangements over
their larger cousins are many.
For one, a mini-arrangement takes fewer flowers to complete the
look, saving you money at the florist. Also, you can fit more than
one carefully placed arrangement in a room, making people notice
the environment, instead of having the arrangement take center
stage.
Also, larger arrangements don't always fit well in every room.
For instance, many people like to have flowers in their bathroom
for when guests come over. A mini-arrangement in a bud vase or
other small container can easily fit on the corner of your bathroom
vanity where larger arrangement might just be cumbersome and out of
place.
Unless you have a master bedroom suite that is roomy enough, having
a large arrangement can there can be overpowering. Small little
boxes, Julep cups or a small crystal glass can be the perfect vase
for a mini-arrangement you can keep on your dresser to help make
your boudoir feel pretty and special.
Any small container will do for a mini-arrangement, but do try to
keep the height and the width no more than 4 inches. Anything
larger than that and the container will overpower the flowers you
choose to use for your arrangement instead of complimenting them.
There are several different ways you can approach a small flower

arrangement. You can choose one type of flower, cut the stems short enough so that the flowers extend above the rim of the container and become 2/3's of the arrangement. Or you can choose different flowers of varying sizes. This gives the flower arrangement some texture and interest. Add one large faced flower like a sunflower, peonies, or lily to help anchor an arrangement with small clusters flowers.
As far as color, you can color coordinate it to the room you want
to place the flowers in, or you can be bold and use striking colors
that will make a statement. The choice is yours.
Experiment with different types of containers and flowers. You'll
not only have fun, but your home will be fragrant and beautiful.
St. Patrick's Day - What's it All About Anyway?
I don't know anything about St. Patrick or why we are supposed to wear green on that day, but.........I wear green on St. Patrick's Day.......and so does almost everyone else. It's fun! Drink green beer and go around asking people to kiss me because I'm Irish...for the night anyway. But, what is all of this really about? Like I said, heck if I know. So here goes. Here's some "Did You Knows" that I've learned about St. Patrick, Ireland and this celebrated day.
Did you know that St. Patrick's Day, March 17th, was the day that he died?
Did you know that the story of his banishing all the snakes from Ireland is not true and only believed because of years of exaggerated storytelling?
Did you know that he was a devout Christian and had a quest to convert pagan Irishman to become Christians?
Did you know that at the age of 16 he was taken as prisoner for six
years by Irish raiders who attacked his parent's estate?
Did you know that St. Patrick was a priest?
Did you know that the first St. Patrick's Day Parade took place here in the United States, not Ireland, but in New York City on March 17, 1762?
Did you know that in modern day Ireland, St. Patrick's Day was traditionally a religious occasion and prior to 1970 Irish laws mandated that pubs be closed on March 17th?
Did you know that the phrase "Erin Go Bragh" means "Ireland Forever"?
Did you know that anyone who kisses the blarney stone which is located near the town of Cork will be blessed with the Irish "gift of gab"?
Did you know that in 1995 the people of Ireland narrowly passed a referendum legalizing divorce?
What the heck! Sounds like some good reasons to wear green, drink green beer and kiss everyone? What do you think?
