Flower Arranging with Your Kids

Children have a unique view on life and this is clearly seen in how they live their lives and carry out activities. By allowing your children to create flower arrangements themselves for your home, their room, and as gifts, you are giving them the opportunity to expand their creativity. You are also creating a love for nature and flowers that will last a lifetime. What do you need to consider when doing flower arrangements with your children?

Don’t be a dictator. Don’t make them do an arrangement the way that you would do it. Allow them to spread their wings creatively. By giving them the room to create the arrangement the way that they want, you are allowing them to stretch their imagination and create an arrangement that they will be proud of. This can go a long way to help them to grow into a love for flowers and for creativity in both flower arranging and in other facets of their life. Show them basic techniques, such as how to cut the flowers, etc., but don’t be bossy in their arranging. Let them lead and set the tone.

Think out of the box. Let them create flower arrangements using thing that they find in and around your home. They may include weeds that you don’t  normally associate with a beautiful flower arrangement, but you may find that they create a very natural arrangement that is visually pleasing and beautiful. Let them set the tone for the flower arrangement even if it is not the “typical” style that you enjoy.

Have fun. Have fun with your kids. Whether they want to make an arrangement in their favorite cup or they want to create a flower crown, be open to their ideas and their leading. Flower arranging should be fun for both you and your children. Turning it into a stressful event will only take away some of their joy for the skill and for spending time with you doing something creative. By having fun with them, you are creating a moment that they will always remember with great fondness and joy for their entire lives.

Allowing your children to have a creative outlet through flower arranging can give them a sense of purpose and self-confidence that they need to become well-adjusted adults. By allowing them to arrange flowers in their own way and own style, you will give them a chance to create an arrangement that they will love and be proud of. Taking the time with them now will have big rewards for their entire life. Aren’t your kids worth it?

Interesting Facts About Tulips

The word tulip comes from a Turkish word ‘turban’. This is because the bulb does looks like a turban when it is upside down. Tulips bloom when spring takes over winter. To recognize a tulip, just look at the tulip bulb and the flower stalk which is usually taller than any other flowers. Each hybrid has its own shape, color and size. Many believe that tulips come from Holland but this is wrong. Mostly, wild tulips are originated from Asia. Tulips in Europe are mostly from the Mediterranean.

There was only one type of tulips in the ancient days. However, thanks to modern technology and the hard work of the breeders, there are thousands of different tulips today. There are many different classes for tulips but the most common classes would be Darwin tulips, triumph tulips and cottage tulips. These three classes of tulips are hybrids from the original tulip. Usually Darwin tulips bloom in May. However, no matter what kind of classes, tulips are always beautiful and elegant.

One look at the flower and you might think that this is some kind of cheap flower compared to roses and others so-called high ranking flowers. The fact is that in 1635, tulip is sold for $35,000 in comparison to current currency. The reason is simply because of the lack in those days and people were trying to outdo each other in the search of tulips. It was a status symbol during that time since the tulip was so rare. You might think that it is ridiculous to buy a tulip at such an unbelievable price but that is the history of tulips.

Tulips are widely recognized as a sign for friendship. The Dutch crown princess fled to Canada for refuge during the war and when the war ended, the Dutch gave Canada one million tulips as a sign of gratitude and their everlasting friendship. Until today, you can see the presence of tulips in Canada and if you want to give something special for your friend, pick tulips. At the same time, Holland is the largest tulip producer in the world.

While tulips might be seen as the symbol of friendship, however, you canpresent red tulips to someone you love as a sign of love itself. If you are creative and have the budget, you can even mix tulips with other flowers to make it more interesting. Mix and match is always a great way to create a different and unique bouquet of flowers. Tulips can be easily matched with any other flowers.

Today tulips are not as expensive as a long time ago. You can even grow your own tulips if you have some quality tulip bulbs. It is best to plant tulips in September as tulips need the coldness before they can bloom after the snow. This way, you can expect a garden full of blooming tulips in spring time. If you own a garden big enough to accommodate quite a lot of tulips, you can even sell those and earn some extra money. If you are living in an area with no snow, you can refrigerate the tulip bulbs for about six to eight weeks before you plant them.

A friend of mine told me that there are no flowers that are too expensive and there are no flowers that are too cheap. We should not judge the flowers based on its looks but based on the beauty it portrays. Roses might be able to fetch a high price these days especially during special occasions such as Valentine’s Day but tulips are precious too. How much you are willing to spend for tulips?
