Tip 2 of 10 (10 Tips to Flower Arranging)
Here’s your 2nd tip on flower arranging:
Floral frog, that is.
Rather than use floral foam, which is difficult to use, go for floral frogs. Floral frogs are flower holders, arrangers, or blocks. They are placed at the bottom of your container, just like floral foam, only they don’t come with the same problems as floral foam. Sticking flowers into floral foam often causes the stems to break or bend, which can be costly and inefficient. Also, when arranging flowers you tend to move the flowers around a lot, trying to find the best places for each flower. This can cause the floral foam to break apart to the point where it is unusable. Floral foam also weakens the capability of the floral stems to absorb water and nutrients and shortens their life.
Floral frogs, on the other hand, do not cause these problems. They are also reusable, require less waste, and less cost over time. Additionally, floral frogs are decorative, make excellent collector’s pieces, are inexpensive, and come in a variety of different styles, shapes, colors, and sizes.
Below I have added two arrangements sent to me by Christine. They show the use of frogs in floral arrangements. Well done! Christine

I used to be use this flower frog in my country, but since I came to USA, it seems like no too many people to use this tool any more, specially at the flower shop. But sometimes the flowers would not stand in place, because the frog too small, will not hold the balance.
I see your point May. I think foam is the choice most people prefer these days, me included. The frogs are nice if you are using them for a bouquet type arrangement not requiring different heights in an arrangement. Today, I think they are mostly used as a collectors item.
In my flower class we used both. We are more to oriental arrangment we used lots of twigs and branches. I have some pictures if u like to see it I can email you at ….@artisticflowerarrangements.com addy?
Christine, I would love to see your pictures. And if you would like let me know which ones I can display on my site for everyone to enjoy. Thank you so much. Judy
Thank you Judy.
Hi Judy
ur site is quite informative thank you.
About floral pins I used to use them, but I find they rust easily and are difficult to clean.
Thanks for the tip Soniya. I agree that they do indeed rust, however, I feel that floral pins were made to be used only one time since they are mostly used in arrangements that are given away.
